Eudora 5.2 improves filter, adds Kerberos V, more

Qualcomm Inc. released a new version of Eudora, its popular POP/SMTP e-mail client for Mac and Windows. The new version, 5.2, is available for download from the Eudora Web site now.

The new version offers improved junk e-mail (spam) filtering capabilities, support for Kerberos V authentication, and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) e-mail security for Mac OS X 10.2 users.

Filtering now can match incoming e-mail addresses against specific address books or against all address books. Eudora developer and Qualcomm vice president Steve Dorner explained that this enables Eudora users to "make sure their frequent correspondents get noticed" amongst the multitude of unsolicited e-mail they may receive.

Kerberos V site authentication support allows users to log in to networks using one-time authorization; this feature has been requested by universities. SSL support has been added for Mac OS X 10.2 users; Qualcomm noted that the feature is already supported in other Windows and Mac versions of the software.

Eudora 5.2 is available in either Sponsored or Paid modes. If you paid for the software within the last twelve months, you can upgrade to 5.2 for free, otherwise you're required to pay US$29.95. The alternative is to use the software in Sponsored mode, which displays small advertisements. A new Eudora license costs $39.95. Eudora 5.2 works on Mac OS 8.1 or higher, including Mac OS X.
