Fujitsu will provide a cloud email service for 27,000 mailboxes across the New South Wales government.
Fujitsu announced an agreement with NSW Businesslink on behalf of the Department of Family and Community Services (FACS). The service will provide case workers and other government agency staff with increased functionality and remote access through mobile devices, Fujitsu said.
Under the agreement, Fujitsu will migrate and run the messaging for FACS under a cloud-based, pay-as-you-go model. FACS will migrate from an on-premise Exchange 2003 platform to an Exchange 2013 environment hosted in Fujitsu’s Australian data centres. Fujitsu will also provide ongoing upgrades to the email platform.
FACS has already completed a successful pilot of 100 users and expects to roll out cloud email across 27,000 mailboxes over three months. Fujitsu said it expects to complete the deployment by September.
“This initiative aligns well with the NSW Government strategy of consuming IT services on a ‘pay-as-you-go’ model,” Albert Olley, executive director of NSW Business Services, said in a statement.
“The solution provided by Fujitsu will also have a significant community impact, with case workers across NSW being able to access email and calendars on their mobile devices. This means that they can spend more time helping people who are desperately in need of their services.”
