The Victorian government has launched a $12 million fund to spur technology trials and pilot projects that can improve government service delivery.

Minister for Technology Gordon Rich-Phillips announced the Victorian Government Technology Innovation Fund today at an Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) event.

Rich-Phillips called for applications from Victorian government departments, agencies and statutory bodies, as well as local government councils, industry associations, businesses and not-for-profit and community organisations.

The Department of State Development, Business and Innovation will administer the fund, which is to deliver on key parts of the Victorian government’s ICT strategy.

“Projects that take a staged approach to development and implementation, and that harness industry capabilities to boost public sector productivity and deliver improved services will be a focus for the new Fund,” Rich-Phillips said.

“The effective use of ICT is essential to creating better services for all Victorians, particularly in areas such as health, education, aged care, transport, environment and natural resource management, and emergency services.”
