PwC joins Gatekeeper regime

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) is the latest addition to the list of digital certificate service providers accredited under the Federal Government's Gatekeeper regime.

After gaining approval from National Office of the Information Economy (NOIE), PwC will be able to provide a range of Gatekeeper services, such as checking the identity of individuals and organisations, which apply to purchase digital signature certificates, as well as issue these certificates.

As well as being an accredited Certification Authority, the group will also assume the additional responsibilities of a Registration Authority.

In addition, PwC's beTRUSTed offering joins the ranks of eSign and Telstra, as the third organisation accredited to offer Australian Business Number-Digital Signature Certificates (ABN-DSCs), used specifically to deal with Federal agencies.

PwC joins six other successful applicants for approval under the Gatekeeper regime: Australia Post, Telstra, eSign, the Health eSignature Authority, Baltimore, and the Australian Taxation Office.

Gatekeeper is the Federal Government's strategy for the issuing of digital certificates to individuals and organisations by accredited organisation, thereby enabling the delivery of Government services online.

Applicants are evaluated by NOIE, ASIO, the Defence Signals Directorate and the Australian Government Solicitor.
