Collaboration vendor eRoom Technology Inc. on Tuesday rolled out an updated version of its digital workplace application, featuring improved business process integration, real-time collaborative services, and support for Web services development.
The virtual workplace, in which geographically dispersed employee teams are connected via technology, is the way of the future for enterprise collaboration, according to Francois Gossieaux, vice president and chief marketing officer at eRoom, in Cambridge, Mass.
"A growing number of employees are working from anywhere, remotely and in-transit. Why pay the overhead for a physical workplace if employees are not located in one place?" he said.
Furthermore, leveraging digital workplaces in context with business-critical processes can help drive ROI by cutting travel costs, boosting productivity, and reducing manufacturing defects, Gossieaux said.
Version 6.0 includes application templates designed to speed business processes development for a variety of vertical industries such as biopharmaceuticals, manufacturing, and professional services. In addition, a configurable business process template supports the design of more complex workflow into eRoom, according to eRoom officials.eRoom 6.0 also includes multi-step approval management capabilities, consolidated task management, and support for real-time collaboration.
To support large-scale deployments, Version 6.0 features native support for XML to ease application integration, support for Web services standards SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) and WSDL (Web Services Description Language), and Windows Clustering services for improved availability.
