The BlackBerry Z10 smartphone will be available later this month through Optus, the telco announced today.

Optus has confirmed the Z10 will be sold on a range of contract plans at various prices, but handset repayments are only avoided on the $100 and $130 Optus Timeless plans. A per month handset payment is required on the $30, $35, $50, $60 and $80 Optus plans.

The hero plan appears to be a $6 monthly handset repayment on the $60 Optus plan over 24 months. The plan includes $650 worth of calls and MMS messages, unlimited SMS messages and 1.5GB of data per month.

The telco has opened online pre-orders for the device and has promised to deliver the smartphone to customers from Monday 25 March, provided they pre-order on the Optus website before Wednesday 20 March.

Existing, eligible Optus customers who upgrade to a BlackBerry Z10 plan before the end of March will receive one month of free access on the $30 and $35 Optus plans and 2GB of extra data on all other plans for the duration of the 24 month contract.

Optus will also sell the BlackBerry Z10 on a range of business plans.

The Z10 is the first smartphone to be released under the reinvented BlackBerry brand. The Canadian giant announced in January that it was rebranding its company name from Research In Motion (RIM) to a single "BlackBerry" brand.

It is also the first device to use the new BlackBerry 10 operating system, which the company says has been completely revamped from the ground up. The software utilises a combination of gestures to navigate around the interface with no physical back or home buttons.
