NBN switched on in first regional Vic town

The first regional Victorians are about to be plugged in to the National Broadband Network (NBN).
The NBN will be formally switched on at Bacchus Marsh, west of Melbourne, on Friday.
More than 200 residents will be able to connect to the fibre-optic broadband network.
Moorabool Shire Mayor Pat Toohey said the people of Bacchus Marsh had been greatly looking forward to being connected to the NBN.
"We look forward to the benefits the rollout will bring to those in the communities," he said.
Another 1800 businesses and homes in the area will have access to the network in coming months, NBN Co said.
The Melbourne suburb of Brunswick was the first metropolitan area connected to the NBN in 2011.
In July last year, the first NBN-enabled café opened in Brunswick, with customers able to access the café’s NBN connection over Wi-Fi.
NBN Co announced that some suburbs, including Brunswick and South Morang in Victoria, will be forced onto the NBN following the shut down of copper services from 23 November, 2012.
NBN Co said work to connect 690,000 homes and businesses will be in progress or completed by the middle of 2015.

The copper is not being shutdown on the 23 November 2012, that is the start of the 18 month countdown until the shutdown may start.
