Juniper bolsters security assets with $10M buyout of anti-DDoS firm

Juniper Networks has acquired the assets of Webscreen Systems, a developer of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) mitigation products, from Accumuli of the United Kingdom.

Juniper announced the purchase in a blog post. It bought the technology for $10 million, according to Accumuli.

The technology will enhance Juniper's data center security product line and enable the company to offer an automated DDoS protection system for websites and Web applications, according to the blog post. Webscreen specializes in behavior-based DDoS mitigation designed to protect against both high volume and advanced persistent threat (APT) attacks.

"DDoS attacks on data centers continue to increase in both scale and complexity - ranging from massive volumetric attacks to sophisticated and difficult-to-detect advanced persistent threat attacks," states David Koretz, vice president and general manager of Juniper's Mykonos Software business, in the blog.

Juniper acquired Mykonos Software, a provider of website and Web application security software, for $80 million about a year ago. Mykonos develops deception-based software that detects an attacker before an attack is in progress to protect against zero-day attacks and ADTs.

Back in 2010, Juniper acquired Altor Networks, a provider of virtualization security for data centers, for $95 million.
