Telstra hits 14.4 million domestic mobile customers

Telstra now has 14.4 million mobile customers across Australia after adding 607,000 for its half year ending December 31, 2012.
Australia's number one telco also announced today it has sold 1.5 million 4G devices since launching 4G services in September 2011.
4G customers now make up 13 per cent of Telstra’s post-paid customers and 17 per cent of mobile broadband customers and 67 per cent of Telstra customers now use a smartphone
Smartphone sales contributed to a 17.1 per cent increase in mobility hardware revenue growth to $767 million.
Telstra also added 85,000 fixed retail broadband customers, with 2.7 million now on its broadband network.
Despite this increase, the telco’s fixed broadband revenue dropped 4.0 per cent to $3.7 billion, while mobile revenue increased 4.6 per cent to $4.6 billion.
The telco also added 117,000 customers to bundled plans to 1.5 million customers over the period. A total of 56 per cent of fixed broadband customers are now on bundled plans.
PSTN revenue fell by 10.8 per cent to $2.2 billion, with call revenue and basic access lines connections declining by 151,000 during the period.
Total sales flat
Total sales revenue for the period was $12.5 billion, a 1.0 per cent increase, while net profit after tax increased 8.8 per cent to $1.6 billion. The telco also spent $1.9 billion on capital.
Telstra recorded $176 million in payments from NBN agreements, which included $94 million worth of Commonwealth payments and $82 million which related to a TUSMA agreement to provide ‘public interest services’ and access to Telstra's infrastructure for the NBN.
Cloud revenue grew 25.0 per cent, while total network applications and services revenue increased 10.6 per cent to $636 million.
Telstra expects fiscal growth for 2013 to be in the low single digit total income and earnings growth.

No wonder Telstra's mobile network is getting so horribly congested. Ever tried to access google maps while at Soutbank (brisbane) during a busy day? It doesn't work at all because there are just too many customers jammed into a network that cannot handle it.
