WA government sets aside funding for digital media

In a bid to foster more digital media productions in Western Australia, the state government has announced a combined funding pool of $260,000 for the creation of digital content.

Under the Digital Factual Extension Fund, up to four $15,000 development grants will be available in the first half of 2013 from WA screen funding and development agency ScreenWest.

During the second half of 2013, a production pool of up to $200,000 will be available. The $200,000 may be allocated to one project or a range of smaller productions and will be assessed against criteria.

In addition, a Digital Innovation Production Fund has been announced. Under this fund, $15,000 will be available to up to four teams to develop low cost projects such as a mobile application.

WA Culture and Arts minister John Day said that upon successful delivery, a further $50,000 will be available to each of these teams to create a bigger digital project.

“This [funding] is open to emerging and established practitioners in WA,” he said in a statement.

The WA government has provided funding for a number of film projects in the state including Red Dog (2011) and Bran Nue Dae (2009).
