Tamworth council receives $420,000 in NBN funding

The federal government has granted Tamworth Regional Council $420,359 for a National Broadband Network (NBN) training hub.
The training hub will provide free advice on the benefits of the NBN and is due to commence training shortly.
“Many people don’t yet fully understand the opportunities that the NBN will provide to regional Australia. The Tamworth Digital Hub is a great way to help build their confidence in using this great technology through running a range of workshops and training courses,” Col Murray, Tamworth Regional Council mayor, said in a statement.
By mid-2015 construction will have commenced or be completed on around 19,500 premises in Tamworth.
Yesterday the federal government announced it would provide $665,000 in funding to the Lockyer Valley Regional Council and HB Recruitment and Training to provide free advice and training to the Lockyer Valley community about the NBN.
The recent slew of NBN funding falls under the NBN’s Digital Hub and Enterprise program. As part of the program, a training centre in Adelaide was opened this week to provide free advice to local residents, small-to-medium-sized businesses and not-for-profit organisations about how to use the NBN and its benefits.
Fibre has also started to be hauled at Penrith in Sydney today.
Construction has begun on around 9100 premises in the area, with connections going live in the next few months.
NBN construction is also underway in Jamisontown and South Penrith and is expected to be completed this year.
Construction has commenced on 68,000 premises in Western Sydney.
