OpenFlow start-up Big Switch lands another big funding round

OpenFlow controller start-up Big Switch Networks this week said it closed a $25 million Series B funding round to continue the expansion of the engineering, sales and marketing operations.
The round was led by Redpoint Ventures and joined by Goldman Sachs, along with existing investors Index Ventures and Khosla Ventures, as well as others. Big Switch Networks was founded in March of 2010 and closed its $14 million Series A round in March of 2011, bringing the total raised to date to $39 million.
ALTERNATIVES: OpenFlow not the only path to network revolution
Big Switch says it has been generating revenue since inception. The company's products are currently in customer trials.
Big Switch has demonstrated interoperability with Arista, Brocade, Dell, Extreme, HP, IBM, Juniper Networks and Citrix, Red Hat, Microsoft, and VMware. Its target market is enterprise data centers, particularly those in the financial and technology verticals. The company's OpenFlow/SDN controllers are designed to enable network virtualization and private cloud buildouts that extend beyond the 4,096 limit of virtual LANs, and facilitate applications such as data center interconnect, disaster recovery and granular security.
