New South Wales will invest $291,000 in four digital media projects, using funding from Screen NSW’s $3 million Interactive Media Fund.
The funded projects will create “dozens of highly skilled jobs in this exciting new industry and put our state at the forefront of innovation both nationally and internationally,” said New South Wales deputy premier, Andrew Stoner.
Stoner said that two industry taskforces on the digital economy and creative industries will soon release industry action plans for the digital gaming and screen production and post-production sectors.
“The global digital games market is expected to more than double to $53 billion by 2016 and mobile gaming to triple to $17.5 billion, so the potential for Sydney and NSW to build its share of the high-value digital games sector is significant,” Stoner said.
New South Wales awarded funds to:
- ACO3D - The Australian Chamber Orchestra will use projection mapping to bring interactive performances to audiences across Australia.
- The Hive - A project that combines social networks, TV and the Internet to get participants solving real-world problems.
- Earthquake BuddyAn app that uses real-time seismic data and geo-tagging to let users know where their loved ones are at the time of an earthquake.
- Mod Productions - support for further development of a business plan for the digital media startup.
