Dell debuts new KACE management appliance

Dell announced the latest product in its line of KACE management appliances Tuesday, highlighting the new KACE K1000's support for multiple new platforms, new APIs, and streamlining of common tasks.

Lubos Parobek, Dell KACE product vice president, said in a statement that the K1000 is designed to help organizations of all sizes cope with some of the IT landscape's most pressing issues.
"Today's organizations face a wide range of IT challenges including endpoint security, regulatory compliance, server management and BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), which can make it difficult for resource-strapped IT teams to provide the services and responsiveness that their businesses are demanding," he said.
To that end, Dell said the K1000 offers important simplifications like one-click security agent updating, patch optimization and a new multi-object reporting wizard, designed to provide quick, robust insight into IT infrastructure performance.
The company also added support for a host of new operating systems, including Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Ubuntu, SUSE Linux Enterprise and OS X Mountain Lion, with the aim of improving support for increasingly diverse OS environments.
Dell said that the KACE K1000 will be available for sale in early November, for a starting price of $8,900.
KACE Networks was acquired by Dell in 2010 for an undisclosed amount, with the aim of helping the Texas-based OEM appeal to small and midsize businesses. Dell has since released several products under the KACE brand as part of its shift toward becoming a provider of business products and services.
