Telstra mobile network experiences call failures

The issue affected customers across Australia from 10am to 12.30pm

Some Telstra mobile customers experienced call failures Tuesday morning due to faulty network equipment in the Next G network, Telstra said. A Telstra spokeswoman told Computerworld Australia that a “small percentage customers nationally may have experienced call failures.”

The issue began at 10am and was resolved by 12.30pm, the Telstra spokeswoman said. The carrier alerted customers to the issue via Twitter.

“Only voice calls were affected, customers were still able to access mobile data services as normal,” the Telstra spokeswoman said. “The issue was found to be a faulty piece of network equipment.”

Optus and Vodafone have also recently faced network outages. Optus suffered a 3G data outage across Australia on 23 July. Vodafone experienced an outage across six states late in June due to an issue with one of its data routers.
