Nexus 7 still shipping to Australia

Google's Nexus 7 Android tablet is still shipping to Australia, despite high demand temporarily halting sales in the US and the UK.

The company has been forced to stop selling the the 16GB version of its Nexus 7 Android tablet in both the US and UK due to high demand. However, the same 16GB tablet remains on sale in Australia.

A visit to the Google's Play Store in Australia says the 16GB model will "ship soon" in 1-2 weeks. US and UK customers trying to purchase the same 16GB model need to sign up to be notified by e-mail when the Nexus 7 will become available again, with no time frame or date specified.

Google hasn't yet released any sales figures of the tablet, nor stated when it expects stocks in these markets to be replenished.

The 8GB version of the Nexus 7 is listed as being "in stock" and will ship in 3-5 business days, both in Australia and worldwide markets.

The Google Nexus 7 went on sale in the US, UK, Canada and Australia last week and was shipped to Australian consumers starting from Wednesday 18 July. Google previously promised that all Australian pre-orders placed before Friday 13 July would be fulfilled and shipped by the end of last week.

The Google-branded but ASUS manufactured Nexus 7 device was officially unveiled last month at the company's I/O developers conference.

Earlier this month,ASUS revealed that the 16GB model of the Nexus 7 will be sold in Australia through Harvey Norman, JB Hi Fi, Dick Smith, Bing Lee, The Good Guys, Retravision, Radio Rentals, Officeworks, EB Games, Costco, BSR and other authorised resellers from "late July".

The 16GB Nexus 7 is priced at $319 in retail stores, which is the same cost as ordering it directly through the Play Store when you add a $19.99 shipping cost to the $299 price tag.

The cheaper 8GB version of the Nexus 7 ($249 + $19.99 shipping) is only be available to purchase through the Play Store.

The Google Nexus 7 has a smaller 7in screen than the new iPad and is the first device to run the Google's new version of the Android OS, 4.1 Jelly Bean.
