While some students are still waiting to be released from classes, Apple has begun offering back-to-school discounts on its MacBook and iPad.
Apple's pitch reads: "Buy a Mac for college and receive $100 to spend on apps, books, music, movies, and more. Or buy an iPad and get $50 to spend." Apple adds that Mac buyers might be in for additional education price savings.
The promotion is linked to information on iPad tablets starting at $500 and MacBook Air models starting at $950, MacBook Pro laptops starting at $1,100 and iMac computers for $1,150.

Apple is also pushing assorted student-focused apps, such as Reeder, which syncs with Google Reader reading articles, and AudioNote, for taking notes/recording lectures.
To qualify for the Apple deals you must be "a college student, a student accepted to a college, a parent buying for a college student, or a faculty or staff member from any grade level."
The offer comes in the wake of Apple's introduction at its recent Worldwide Developers Conference of a new MacBook lineup, including machines with dazzling Retina Display screens.
Price pressure in the tablet computer market initiated by Apple has triggered something of a tablet pricing free fall in recent months, according to industry research.
