4G technology in Newcastle is one step closer with Telstra announcing the second phase of its plan for the area over the coming months.
Broadmeadow, Callaghan, Georgetown, Jesmond, Kotara East, Lambton, Mayfield, Mayfield West, Waratah and Waratah West will all be upgraded to 4G coverage.
The 4G network was launched in Newcastle in September last year and will double the region’s coverage of the network.
Telstra has now implemented 4G in more than 100 areas across Australia, including eight capital city central business districts.
Expansion works in Newcastle are expected to begin shortly and completed later this year.
Telsyte released a report today which estimates 4G will have a penetration of 19 per cent of total mobile connections by mid-2016.
Telstra also recently released its pre-paid USB 4G modem, which is its first pre-paid device to work on its 4G network.
