Macquarie Telecom awards data centre security deal

Macquarie Telecom (ASX:MAQ) has arranged to use a system from TZ Limited (ASX:TZL) to secure cabinets at the $60m Intellicentre 2 data centre

Macquarie Telecom (ASX:MAQ) has contracted TZ Limited (ASX:TZL) to supply the TZ Centurion security fastening system in an upcoming Macquarie Telecom data centre.

Macquarie Telecom has selected the TZ Centurion IP-based fastening system as the micro-protection solution for cabinets at its $60 million Intellicentre 2 facility.

Intellicentre 2 is being built in Sydney's Macquarie Park, scheduled to be opened in June this year. Macquarie Telecom started work on the centre in October 2010, after paying $10.8 million for the building and land — a cost which is inclusive to the $60 million price tag.

Last week, Macquarie revealed it has received preliminary Tier III certification for the facility from peak body the Uptime Institute, making it the only Australian data centre to achieve this status.

Tier III facilities must maintain 99.986 per cent uptime and be maintainable without the requirement to shut down equipment.

Under the terms of the deal with TZ Limited, Macquarie has committed to using TZ Centurion on at least 95 per cent of its cabinets at the 20,000 square metre facility.

TZ Limited will supply the associated parts, including TZ SlideHandles, through distribution partner Anixter Australia.

MAQ shares stayed flat during Friday's trading at $9.000, while TZL shares grew 1.35 per cent to $0.375.
