Qld teacher aides for prep classes: LNP

Liberal National Party promises $54 million to help students learn to read and write

The Liberal National Party will put full-time teacher aides into 600 prep classes in Queensland if it wins this month's election.

LNP leader, Campbell Newman, said $54 million would be spent over four years to give prep students more personalised attention as they learn to read and write.

"By boosting early childhood education we can start to lift numeracy and literacy standards at the time it really counts," Newman told reporters at Toowong State School in Brisbane.

He said about 3000 prep students in Queensland were in classes of more than 25.

Those schools would be the first to benefit from the teacher aide program, he said.

Newman played play dough and puzzles with prep kids before the announcement.
