Research in Motion has released version 2.0 of its tablet operating system, BlackBerry PlayBook OS.
The OS runs RIM's tablet offering, the BlackBerry PlayBook, which is largely designed to be used in conjunction with BlackBerry smartphones.
Improvements include a native email client that includes unified inbox that groups messages from social networking services like Twitter and LinkdIn as well as regular email, social networking integration for calendar and contacts
The omission of an integrated email client in the first version of the operating system, was viewed as a major flaw for PlayBook.
Version 2.0 also includes BlackBerry Runtime for Android Apps, allowing developers to more quickly package apps developed for Google's Android platform to be offered through BlackBerry App World.
Other enhancements include an updated version of the BlackBerry Bridge software that links the PlayBook with a BlackBerry smartphone, including allowing the handset to work as a remote wireless keyboard and mouse for the tablet, and improved document editing.
