When you work in the remote Pilbara region of Western Australia, it’s easy to feel isolated. Which is why resources and energy companies that operate in the area go to great lengths to ensure employees are connected – and entertained.

Enter UXC Connect, whose Campsite Entertainment system will be installed in more than 3000 rooms across four mining camps in the Pibara. The $8 million deal includes several contracts, including two from construction firm Pindan, which is building and designing mining campsites across remote regions of WA.

The systems include delivery of IPTV, video-on-demand, IP telephony, in-room internet and Web kiosks located in common areas across an IP network. New projects are due to start soon and should complete by June 2012.

According to Titan ICT Consultants, Mike Stegena, the system covers requirements from ‘fly camps’ — where workers fly in an out of the locations on rosters — to more permanent sites. “UXC Connect is a global leader in resource and energy entertainment systems, using robust and resilient Gigabit Passive Optical Network technology, the same technology used for the NBN, as the foundation of its offering,” he said in a statement.

UXC Connect chief executive officer, Ian Poole, said the company has extensive experience in hotel in-room entertainment systems.
