SA minister urges change to Facebook ban

Women should be able to post pictures of themselves breastfeeding their children on Facebook, South Australia's minister for the status of women, Gail Gago, says.
Gago says she will write to Facebook owner, Mark Zuckerberg, asking that a ban on photographs of breastfeeding be overturned in cases where women had uploaded their own pictures.
She said she supported mothers protesting after news reports said at least 375 users were temporarily banned from Facebook for posting breastfeeding photos.
Facebook should allow photographs of those women who were willing to share their own experiences, the minister says.
"Breastfeeding your baby is a normal and natural thing to do," Gago said in a statement.
Facebook is a social network where people choose who they interact with, she said.
"There is no valid reason for any social media network to ban legitimate pictures posted by women of themselves breastfeeding their own children," the minister said.

There's a time and a place for eveything. Breast feeding in public let alone posting pictures on Facebook of yourself doing it is not one of them... If you want to show 'em off send your friends an email.
Patrick
Breast feeding is not appropriate for facebook. It is essentially porn for young boys. Like the previous comment said - send it in an email if it that important.

I don’t want to see your ugly tits with your kid at any time!

Thousands of children dying of preventable disease and an SA minister has nothing better to do than write a protest about women having their tits out. weird priorities.
buddy
So the Minister says "Breastfeeding your baby is a normal and natural thing to do," Well Minister, so is going to the toilet!
Brock
Baby or granny, I don't want to see photos of anyone eating their breakfast. It's not exciting at all.
Funny
And the only ones who have a problem enough to comment are men. Enough said really. And your illogical comments are laughable so thanks for the laughs boys. Must be fun to live in the privileged world of being male.
And who says misogyny is dead!
grumpy
@8 Funny, you are so right. It seems that some people will say anything to expose their stupid immaturity, if it means they can post in a blog. Like, wow.
I was tempted to lightheartedly add that this all sounds like a storm in a D-cup, but then I decided I'd better not, because the nutters above would be sure to misrepresent that as well.

This is RIDICULOUS! Facebook is not the appropriate place to post pictures of one breastfeeding one's baby! Thisminister should shut up and mind her own business. I will be writing to Mark Z fully supporting his ban on such pictures. I as a female do not want to see someone's else's breast on facebook or a baby being fed! If you want to show off your breast, take a topless picture of yourself and post it on FB!

Who needs Facebook anyway?

I don't get how it's anyone's business what pictures people post on their own profile. Breastfeeding is a biological function, not porn and fb has shown themselves to be very immature about this.
And if you don't want to see it, then just don't look at that persons profile. Not hard. It's amazing how some people support this ban because they personally don't want to see it. What the hell has that got to do with it. How can you support taking away a persons basic right just because you are a weirdo who doesn't like breasts or babies?

Since when have you not been allowed to put bare boobs on facebook, with or without babies attached??? Do you really think there is an army of boob checkers flicking through the hundreds of millions of Facebook entries checking for knockers with babies. Just don't put them anywhere where I will see them, OK!!
david
Ok two things here come to mind .1 women and cows should not run and who wants to see a lactating cow on facebook
Peter
Have any of theses women thought that images of women breast feeding could be distressful to people in other countries and could also incite violance towards other women in other countries we are very liberal here in Austalia not so in the rest of the world.

No one wants to see those photos on facebook. I am a woman and I think it is incredibly inappropriate. I doubt children will be thanking their mothers in the future for posting these photos. Breastfeeding is an intimate moment between mother and child, not mother, child and 500 facebook friends.
