Verizon: LTE services "returning to normal"

Verizon says subscribers should expect its LTE services to come back online soon after a nationwide outage knocked them offline this morning (See: "Verizon Wireless outage outraging customers") .

Verizon Wireless spokesman Thomas Pica says the LTE service started "returning to normal this morning after company engineers worked to resolve an issue with the 4G network during the early morning hours today." Pica emphasized that LTE users were still able to use voice and SMS services and said the carrier's 3G EV-DO Rev. A network was still operational throughout the LTE outage.

Verizon has not yet outlined how the outage occurred or whether it will give any compensation to users who were affected by it.

Today's outage marked the second time that Verizon's LTE network has gone down within the last month as it experienced a similar outage on Dec. 6-7 when users reported that they could only achieve 3G speeds despite having 4G LTE devices. Verizon's LTE network also went down this past April when users were similarly knocked down to the company's 3G EV-DO Rev. A network for days before Verizon got the 4G network back up and running.
