Australian satellite company, NewSat (ASX: NWT), has signed a 10-year contract with a Middle Eastern telco for Jabiru satellite transmission capacity worth more than $67 million.
The Ka-band (26.5-40 GHz frequency) satellite capacity will allow the customer, which NewSat declined to name due to “commercial and competitive reasons”, to deliver high-speed internet and data services across several Middle Eastern regions.
“We are seeing more and more demand for Ka-band satellite capacity across the Middle East for Internet, voice and data services,” NewSat Founder and CEO, Adrian Ballintine, said in a statement.
“Ka-band blends perfectly for this market and our new carrier-grade telecommunications customer sees the delivery of their internet and data services via Ka-band as a major competitive advantage.”
NewSat signed a deal with Quicklink Communications in September for transmission capacity on NewSat’s Jabiru-1 satellite to service Quicklink’s customers in the Middle East.
The contract with the Middle Eastern telco follows on from last week’s announcement that Lockheed Martin would immediately start construction on the Jabiru-1 satellite, with Arianespace to launch the satellite in 2014.
