The highly sought-after Government Group 5 Data Carriage Services outsourcing tender, which covers five Federal departments, has been awarded to managed service provider and telco reseller Macquarie Corporate.
Since initiating a strategy of outsourcing IT management and infrastructure in 1997, Federal Government departments with similar needs are sorted into nine groups known as clusters. The contract for Group 5 is one of the more highly contested ones.
It is a significant strategic win for the company's government business unit formed last year, according to David Tudehope, Macquarie Corporate Telecommunications' chief executive.
Tudehope said the deal is an early victory for the team created to market the company to the government sector.
"The unit was established as part of a growth strategy to leverage into new markets Macquarie's strengths in servicing the needs of its 1600 corporate customers," Tudehope said.
Other elements in the initiative include the introduction of a wide range of data services for corporate and government customers, as well establishing an office in Singapore. --ARN
