Primus joins Federal Govt data centre panel

Primus Australia has jumped on board the Australian Government Information Management Office’s (AGIMO) Data Centre Facilities Panel as the agency makes its final additions to the panel.

The panel, to be in place for five years, was established under the Federal Government’s Data Centre Strategy 2010-2025, which includes consolidating data centre sites and increasing the utilisation of servers and storage. The panel aims to provide agencies with an improved process to procure data centre facilities and services.

The ISP will offer services solely from its Melbourne facility to government agencies to aid in the reduction of costs for procuring data centre services, streamline contractual agreements and standardise infrastructure policy. The ISP also has data centre facilities in Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane.

“As a key point of interconnect and carrier services, our Melbourne facility is an integral cornerstone of the telecommunications and data sector and we are pleased to be able to extend our services and capabilities offering to the Federal Government," Primus Australia chief executive, Tom Mazerski, said in a statement.

Primus joins numerous data centre operators on the panel including, Canberra Data Centre, Datacom Systems, Equinix Australia, iseek, NEC and TransACT Capital Communications. Numerous Greenfield operators were also appointed to the panel in September including, Enterprise Data Corporation, Australian Data Centres, Global Switch, Macquarie Telecom, Metronode and Fujitsu.

According to AGIMO CIO, Ann Steward, agencies procuring data centre facilities from the panel will enter into a 10 year lease with the option to extend for a further five years.

In July, AGIMO flagged it had all but finalised vendors for the panel as well as its data centre migration panel, following an extensive selection process which began in November last year.
