Telstra’s Chatswood exchange experiences outage

Business and Bigpond customers affected

A router issue at Telstra’s (ASX: TLS) exchange in Chatswood, Sydney, led to an outage on 7 November that impacted 10 per cent of the telco’s internet traffic flow.

Telstra Business and Bigpond customers were affected during the loss of service which occurred between 12:37pm and 1:20pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).

A Telstra spokesman said in a statement that engineers isolated the affected router and services were now restored.

“A technical investigation is underway and Telstra apologises for any inconvenience to our customers,” he said.

This is not the first time the company has experienced an outage in 2011. During May, a server failure led to intermittent issues with SMS messaging and phone reception in some states.

Users reported issue sending SMS messages and placing some phone calls in Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia, with some attributing the issue to peak use during the first State of Origin Rugby League game of the year.
