The rollout of the National Broadband Network (NBN) in the Illawarra will provide 500 new jobs in the region at its peak, according to a statement by the Department of Broadband Communications and the Digital Economy.
NBN Co’s construction plan revealed that network construction in Dapto and Wollongong should begin in the next 12 months.
To mark the occasion, Prime Minister Julia Gillard today visited the Illawarra region to announce the news, with construction to begin on about 11,000 premises across the two sites within the next 12 months.
The announcement follows the connection of 2500 premises to the NBN in nearby Kiama Downs and Minnamurra. Services are currently connecting 5200 premises in Jamberoo and Kiama.
