Ergon Energy seeks data centre services

Queensland energy utility Ergon Energy has gone to tender for data centre space in the state's south-east.

In documents released on the Ergon website, the company writes that it needs data centre hosting space and managed services to accommodate SPARQ offerings, Energex and Ergon Energy live production ICT assets for a minimum of five years.

According to the tender, the facility would need to meet the tier three data centre standard and include equipment, power, cooling and security services.

“The immediate requirement is to house up to 60 racks of production equipment, with the potential for growth up to around 80 racks, ideally within a single contiguous, segregated area,” read the documents.

The deadline for tenders closes on 7 November with a briefing to be held at Ergon’s Queensland office on 17 October.

In April, the company revealed it would move future geospatial data into a Google-hosted public Cloud platform called Earth Builder from August this year, a move expected to save more than $44 million over five years.

The Cloud-based service allows third parties to store and serve geospatial data to end-users through existing tools, including Google Maps and Earth.
