Bankwest branches into Android app space

Commonwealth Bank subsidiary Bankwest has responded to customer demand for mobile banking by launching a free Android application. This follows the bank’s release of an iPhone app in March this year which has been downloaded 85,000 times from the iTunes app store.
Bankwest retail chief executive, Vittoria Short, said in a statement that the Android app was created in three weeks and enabled customers to search for nearby Bankwest ATMs and branches. The app also provides customers with a list of support numbers and a savings calculator.
“This app will make life easier for customers on the go as it gives them real time access to popular features of personal and business online banking, including checking their account balances, paying bills via BPAY and transferring funds,” she said.
"While access to internet banking using the app is free, normal network provider data downloads and access fees apply."
The bank revamped its website earlier this year in a bid to offer improved online banking services.
