Fujitsu, Maquarie Telecom onboard AGIMO data panel

The agency has added nine new Greenfield facilities to the data facilities panel

The Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) has added a number of Greenfield facilities to its data centre facilities panel, including Fujitsu and Macquarie Telecom.

The panel will be in place for five years and was formed as part of the Australian Government’s data centre strategy which includes consolidating data centre sites and increasing the utilisation of servers and storage.

In a blog post, AGIMO CIO, Ann Steward detailed the six new sites to join the panel including:

  • Australian Data Centres (Mitchell, ACT)
  • Enterprise Data Corporation (Bella Vista, NSW)
  • Fujitsu (Greystanes, NSW and Fyshwick, ACT)
  • Global Switch (Ultimo, NSW)
  • Macquarie Telecom (two sites at North Ryde, NSW) and
  • Metronode (Derrimut, VIC and Mitchell, ACT)

“Greenfield sites provide more potential data centre space to the panel, allowing demand to be met throughout the panel’s lifespan,” the post read.

“Agencies procuring data centre facilities from the panel will enter into 10-year leases, with an option to extend the lease for five years.”

According to Steward, it is mandatory for agencies under the Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997 (FMA) to use the panel, and optional for agencies under the Commonwealth Authority and Companies Act 1997 (CAC), while state government agencies can also use the panel.

In July, the agency flagged the near completion of the panel with just a “small number” of companies to join by the end of 2011.
