IBM, Avaya team on communication tools

Communications and software provider Avaya Inc. and computer behemoth IBM Corp. announced Wednesday that they will jointly develop and provide communication tools for businesses.

The IBM Global Services division and Avaya will team in three areas: communications management, customer relationship management and contact center solutions, Avaya spokesman Renaldo Juanso said.

IBM and Avaya will jointly develop software that will help end users manage various messages received throughout the day, such as e-mail, voicemail, faxes and multimedia messages from communications devices, Juanso said. The software will be managed and organized so that customers can access messages from a single interface, such as a cell phone, he said.

IBM will help sell and implement Avaya's technology for the customer relationship management and contact center software as part of the deal, Juanso said.
