The creation of the Telecommunications Internet Based Network Connections Services Panel was announced in August 2010 via a request for tender. The panel, which has an initial term of three years, provides access to telecommunications carriage services, including major internet connections.
The initial term may be extended by the Department of Finance and Deregulation for a further two, twelve-month periods. While the panel will begin with Fujitsu, Telstra and Transact, additional suppliers may be added in the near future, as negotiations and contractual arrangements are finalised.
Earlier this month the AGIMO announced that federal agencies would have access to an expanded whole-of-government telecommunications management panel.
Nine companies —Business Strategy Review, Cisco, Cordelta Envista, Telsoft, the Strategic Directions Group, UXC, Transpire and Veridian Solutions —were added to the roster.
The panel is designed to help agencies with the redesign of new telecommunications, the management of mobile phone fleets and the improvement of billing and inventory management.
AGIMO has also said it has all but finalised vendors for its data centre migration and facilities panels following an extensive selection process which began in November 2010.
The panels were formed as part of the Australian Government’s data centre strategy which was designed to guide its procurement and management of data centre services until 2025. The strategy includes consolidating data centre sites and increasing the utilisation of servers and storage.
