Google Australia announced a group of local engineers collaborated with designers in Tokyo “enhance the mobile Docs experience”.
The new app, available from the Android Market for versions 2.1 and later, allows people to search, create, edit and share documents.
Opening Docs from Gmail without entering login credentials each time is also supported.
The local developers also worked on OCR support, which can scan text from a photo an import it into a document.
Last year Google announced it would support editing of text documents from Android and iOS devices.
Content can also be uploaded from the phone to Docs and opened from Gmail.
Google has not yet announced if the new app will remain Android-only.
