Lenovo's 12.5in X220 will run Intel's 2nd Generation Core i7 CPU, and up to 23 hours battery life when running a second external 9-cell battery.
Engadget today found that the specifications for Lenovo's ThinkPad X220 laptop have already popped up on the vendor's site. A PDF on the American Lenovo site lists details of the notebook that will make any laptop lover — and any PC lover in general — salivate.
The new model will be based on Intel's Sandy Bridge CPUs, with the best offering being a 2.7GHz Core i7-2620M. Despite its small dimensions and light weight (1.3kg), the ThinkPad X220 will be able to accommodate up to 8GB of 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM and a hard drive as well as a micro-SATA solid state drive, which would fit into the laptop's WWAN slot.
The design of the X220 will look the same as a typical Thinkpad, except for a new touchpad design, and its 12.5in screen will be available in two flavours: a basic 1366x768 LED backlit display, and a premium HD version which will be an IPS panel and offer better viewing angles. Lenovo claims that the 9-cell battery in the ThinkPad X220 will have a life of 15 hours, and, if that isn't enough, there will also be an external 9-cell battery pack offering a total of 23 hours battery life. USB 3.0 will only be offered with the Core i7 version of the laptops.
The ThinkPad X220 will run Windows 7, but it has Linux certification for Redhat, Novell and Ubuntu.
There is no word yet on pricing or availability in Australia.
