Nexbis' Maldives project still on

Mobile security vendor Nexbis (ASX:NBS) has received confirmation its Maldives border control project is proceeding, belying rumours it has been suspended

Mobile security solution vendor Nexbis (ASX:NBS) said its contract with the Maldives Immigration Department has not been frozen, despite reports to the contrary.

The company has received formal notification from the Maldives Minister of State, Ilyas Hussain Ibrahim, that the border control project is going ahead.

Ibrahim apologised for the “intense media speculation that may have caused damage to Nexbis' good reputation,” and said the project is progressing to its original rollout schedule.

Nexbis shares fell six per cent on Friday, after Maldives press claimed Ibrahim had said the project was suspended pending a corruption probe.

The nations' Anti-corruption Commission Commission was investigating the means through which the deal was awarded, the reports claimed.

The immigration department separately provided more details of the project. Nexbis will develop a full border-control system, with biometric facial and fingerprint identification.

The project also includes an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) compliant passport data capture and store system, an interagency border control watchlist database and a global passport security database.

The department is also considering adding an iris biometric component to the system, but said the technology is currently not mature enough, and ICAO-standard passports do not yet store the information required to make such a system work.

Nexbis won the 20-year build, operate and transfer contract through an open auction process. Its involvement was first announced in October.

NBS shares closed Monday's trading 2.7 per cent higher at $0.076.

I heard , the famous informatics (sri Lanka) only offer 60 licenses nothing else , even they don’t have fund to invest like others , only 5 million our loving Immigration Deputy state minister Adam Naseer is telling compare to 20 years that is nothing since we must pay back same amount as invest 23 or 35 million..

Since I heard nexbis web site they have L3 security that approve by FBI. N companies in Europe n Australia. That only do security software and invent security items.

There are reason to complain in ACC by our New IT head Ibrahim waheed because like previous e-passport he join immigration after project Finnish and told MNBC TV program he is the man..

ACC complain there is a corruption but later Bid wrong but they them self told everything ok only company is not capable to do like informatics.. ACC must investigate the big fraud case these two guys in media...

This looks like a media frenzy project. but i wonder when the media says on nexbiz website it does not indicate any thing about border control. ? how much do ??? they know about border control. its the narrow mind set that clouds such important prjects like this, which would benifit this country which has got so many red warning flags ,of terror invitations? try imagining a once balli ? thats a touristisk heaven ? a country which welcomes people with friendliness and papmpering. maldives economy hugely depndeds on its beauty , inviting tourists? these projcets will defeinetley help to trace share and be on the alert for possibilities? who could this IT head be, my sources told me he is just a DRP politically promoted guy during the DRP regime by Kuvaa shafiu. just a boy scout from Malaysia only 7 days old for immigration border control project.

Ok ACC has a mandate to stop corruption.

But are they ready to compensate for any losses for the two parties in a deal when they order a process to be stalled just because someone reports to them something is fishy.

Even a court has to have enough evidence to detain a suspect after 48 hours.
