AGIMO launches data centre panel

The Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) has expanded its experiment with Government 2.0 launching a new blog for its procurement of kit under the Australian Government Data Centre Strategy.
The blog post, which includes details on the establishment of a panel of suppliers capable of providing data centre facilities to the Australian Government, calls on industry to supply the Government with input on the Statement of Requirements.
“Over the next three weeks, using this blog, you can offer your opinions and thoughts, either generally or specifically,” Kayelle Wiltshire, Assistant Secretary of the Central Facilities Branch at AGIMO wrote in the blog post.
“Working co-operatively, I hope that we can polish the statement of requirements so that it reflects that which industry can provide.”
As reported by Computerworld Australia, AGIMO agency services division manager, John Sheridan, flagged the decision to concentrate of on a given tender’s Statement of Requirements as a key learning from its initial experiment in procurement-related Gov 2.0 for its Telecommunications Operational Management Services (TOMS) panel.
“There is an element of exploring how we do this and see how it goes, but what we have learnt is that if we focus on the Statement of Requirements we think we will get more comments directly around the matters we are most interested in,” Sheridan said in mid-June.
Following in AGIMO’s footsteps, the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research has become the second Federal Government agency to take Government 2.0 to the masses with its Public Sector Innovation blog.
