Vodafone is cutting 375 jobs, primarily in back office functions, starting this month. The news follows several days of speculative reports that layoffs were ahead.
A spokesperson for the mobile phone giant said that roles such as IT, HR and marketing will be affected across its main offices in the UK.
Vodafone has bases in Banbury, Newark, Newbury, Stoke-on-Trent, Trowbridge, Warrington.
However, the company also said that it will hire 170 people in customer facing roles, and take on 50 graduate applicants to its UK graduate programme to start in September.
"These graduates will work across all the functions, starting in a customer facing role," a Vodafone spokesperson said.
Cheshire Building Society awarded Vodafone UK a contract to provide a new communications network and virtual contact centre solution last month.
Vodafone was also one of the accounts affected by the recent strikes at Fujitsu.
