Spence out as Unwired CEO

Unwired CEO David Spence has stepped down from his responsibilities after six years at the helm of the ISP.

Former Telstra marketing director and VividWireless chief, Martin Mercer will take over the role as the two Seven Network stablemate businesses are consolidated under the one CEO. Spence's next moves are unclear and he has not responded to requests for interviews.

In November last year, Spence outlined his thoughts on the market to Computerworld, including his view WiMax will start to have a big impact in 2010.

This came shortly after the Seven Network announced plans to build a $50 million WiMax network in Perth.

Seven’s new wireless division Vividwireless will operate the new network, with services expected to be available in March 2010.

Earlier in February, Seven Network director Ryan Stokes said Australia’s first 4G wireless network will begin rolling out across capital cities within a year. The network run by Seven's subsidiary, VividWireless will hit Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Hobart within 12 months of its March launch debut in Perth.
