QDET renews Unisys IT support contract

Deal worth $41 million during first three years of potential five-year

The Queensland Department of Education and Training (QDET) will retain its IT support relationship with Unisys, signing with the services provider for an additional three years.

Under the contract, worth about $41 million for the first three years and renewable for an additional two years, Unisys will continue to supply outsourcing services to 90 campuses across the state.

In providing services to 13 TAFEs and the Australian Agricultural College, Unisys will support about 330 servers and 19,000 desktops, manage LANs and WANs and provide help desk services.

As part of the services deal, Unisys will also introduce Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)-aligned processes and toolsets for service management, service desk, change management, problem management and asset management.

In January 2009, QDET extended its relationship with 3Com in a five-year deal for network infrastructure solutions to support an ongoing initiative to modernise its educational environment.
