NBN Co's Kaiser to get $450,000 a year

Document tabled in parliament details Queensland premier's former chief of staff salary at NBN Co

The recently appointed NBN Co government relations officer, Mike Kaiser, will receive a salary of $450,000 per year according to a document tabled in parliament yesterday.

Last week it was announced that Kaiser, the Queensland premier's former chief of staff, and a new CIO, former British Telecom employee and current AAPT consultant, Claire Rawlins, had joined NBN Co.

However, the appointment of Kaiser led shadow Communications Minister, Senator Nick Minchin, to suggest the company responsible for rolling out the National Broadband Network (NBN) was a “dumping ground” for Labor supporters and ex-party staffers.

The document containing Kaiser's salary, tabled by Senator Joe Ludwig, states the appointment decision was made by NBN Co and is consistent with its remuneration practices.

When announcing Kaiser's appointment NBN Co executive chairman, Mike Quigley said in a statement his background would help engagement with all levels of government.

“A key early focus for Mr Kaiser will be identifying opportunities for various utility operators across Australia to participate with NBN Co in the rollout of our network,” Quigley said in the statement.

“Mr Kaiser’s understanding of these operations, their infrastructure and their service delivery approaches makes him a valuable addition to the NBN team.”

So apart from being renown as one of Labor's slickest spin merchants, what other qualifications does Kaiser bring to this role, that justifies his absolutely 'obscene level' of taxpayer funded salary...? It only leaves us all to think that this guy must have an absolute encyclopedia of 'dirt files' on all of his Labor mates.

How many ways can you say "Wrong Wrong Wrong".
Simple question is: If the Liberals did this would Labour call for the Minister responsible to be fired?
I think we can guess the answer. So why don't they apply the high standards they held before gaining office to themselves now.
In my organisation you can't even get an internal promotion or job without it being advertised.
