Victoria scores virtualisation goals with Dell, VMware

The Victorian Government has inked a $3 million two-year deal with Dell to provide VMware vShphere 4 and VMware View licenses to 15 core government agencies.

The enterprise license agreement (ELA) will see agencies such as education, justice and VicRoads gain a virtualised infrastructure running departmental applications.

The ELA will also supply Victoria with a full time technical account manager for one year.

“Virtualisation is changing the way resources are deployed and managed,” Bernie Kelly, public sector general manager Dell Australia and New Zealand, said in a statement.

“This agreement demonstrates the strength of Dell and VMware’s partnership and how together we can deliver industry leading IT solutions to our customers.”

Earlier this year, a Gartner report claimed virtualisation software revenue would increase from $US1.9 billion to $US2.7 billion worldwide, and penetration was expected to reach 20 per cent, up from 12 per cent. At the time, VMware Australia and New Zealand vice-president, Paul Harapin, said the report was in line with what the vendor was expecting from the year.
