NBN Co picks CIO and government relations officer

Two new senior appointments, including Anna Bligh's former chief of staff, bring senior executive team to a dozen

The company responsible for rolling out the National Broadband Network (NBN) has appointed two new senior staff.

NBN Co announced former British Telecom employee and current AAPT consultant, Claire Rawlins, will take on the role of chief information officer (CIO), while the Queensland premier's chief of staff, Mike Kaiser, will become principal for government relations and external affairs.

In a statement, NBN Co executive chairman, Mike Quigley said Kaiser’s background would help engagement with all levels of government.

“A key early focus for Mr Kaiser will be identifying opportunities for various utility operators across Australia to participate with NBN Co in the rollout of our network,” Quigley said in the statement.

“Mr Kaiser’s understanding of these operations, their infrastructure and their service delivery approaches makes him a valuable addition to the NBN team.”

Prior to joining AAPT, Rawlins was BT Design group technology managing director and has also held IT roles in Fidelity Investments, Qwest and Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein (DrKW).

The two additions bring NBN Co executive team total to 12. In October, the company announced Gary McLaren was appointed chief technology officer and Steve Christian will take on the role of head of network operations.

So apart from being renown as one of Labor's slickest spin merchants, what other qualifications does Kaiser bring to this role, that justifies his absolutely 'obscene level' of taxpayer funded salary...? It leaves us all to think that this guy must have an absolute encyclopedia of 'dirt files' on his Labor mates.
