RIM introduces new Blackberry

Research In Motion (RIM) has added a new BlackBerry smartphone to its lineup, with the launch of the BlackBerry Curve 8520. The phone is available for Optus and Vodafone.

The Curve 8520 is the first BlackBerry with a touch-sensitive trackpad. It is also the first BlackBerry that includes dedicated media keys quick access to music and video content.

The smartphone also provides easy access to email, messaging and social networking sites and has a full-QWERTY keyboard. It also includes built-in WiFi.

Other features include:

• 256MB Flash memory and a 512Mhz next generation processor
• Voice activated dialing and Bluetooth (2.0) support
• 2 megapixel digital camera with zoom and video recording
• 3.5 mm stereo headset jack
• BlackBerry Media Sync, to sync music from iTunes or Windows Media Player
• Support for access to up to 10 supported email accounts, including popular ISP email accounts such as Yahoo!, Windows Live Hotmail and Gmail
• BlackBerry Enterprise Server support
• Expandable memory via hot swappable microSD/SDHC memory card slot, supporting up to 16GB cards
• Quad-band world phone: EGDE/GPRS/GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)

The new smartphone comes hot on the heels of news RIM would offer BlackBerry Desktop Manager software for Mac OS X.

The software, which is free for download, makes it easy to sync data between Mac applications and BlackBerry smartphones. It is designed to run on Mac OS 10.5.5 and higher and supports BlackBerry smartphones running BlackBerry OS 4.2 and higher.
