New era dawns at ACS

Four roles at the industry lobby group up for election, including president

One of the ICT industry’s peak lobbying groups, the Australian Computer Society (ACS), may be set for a new era with four prominent roles on its board up for election.

The ACS has called for nominations for the positions of ACS President, Vice President (Membership Boards), National Treasurer and National Congressional Representative. The incumbents are due to finish their two-year terms in November.

Current President and the Chairman of the National Board, Kumar Parakala, said membership of the ACS board provided the opportunity to promote the contributions of the local information and communications technology (ICT) sector and take a leadership role in the country’s future.

“These roles provide an opportunity for leading technology professionals to help ensure key ICT industry issues are addressed for the future benefit of ACS members and the sector in general,” Parakala said.

Selection criteria include being prepared to devote considerable time to the role in an honorary capacity (about one day per week), possessing leadership experience and being a financial member of the ACS.

Selection criteria and information on the roles, are available here and here.

Nominations will close at midnight eastern standard time on Friday, 30 October 2009. The positions are elected by congress and will be held on 27 November 2009 at the congress meeting in Sydney.

What about the CEO? Is it Burrell or Denham? What's going on there?
