Logistics company, Costa Logistics, is undertaking a $4 million upgrade of its IT system, moving to the Manhattan warehouse management system (WMS) software package in a bid to improve service.
The upgrades, expected to be completed in November and using Manhattan's WMiS software, include a capability to manage and anticipate stock fluctuations and the ability to proactively plan labour and exchange data electronically with client business systems.
Costa Logistics chief executive officer, Tim Bolam, says logistics providers must be able to respond to pressure from customers for flexible solutions to meet fluctuations in consumer demand.
“Costa Logistics decided to upgrade its existing Manhattan solution to take advantage of some of the greatly improved functionality and labour-saving modifications of the latest version of the WMiS platform,” Bolam said.
“We were only interested and looked at Manhattan Associates due to the integration modules it offered as it was able to align with the direction we are taking as an organisation from a growth perspective.”
The company decided on the upgrade a year ago and has been working implementation plans since the business case was completed in March. The rest of the rollout is expected to proceed quite quickly; the first stage of the upgrade has been successfully implemented at its Derrimut headquarters in Melbourne, which will be followed by its Jandakot facility in Perth then by its Eastern Creek distribution centre in Sydney.
“We've had positive feedback on the project with a smooth execution of stage one. The software's enhanced reporting and analytical capabilities have been a huge win with our customers,” Bolam said.
