News briefs: NetMap, Ideas, Iocom and Krone make headlines

NetMap, an Australian provider of data visualisation tools, has regained the rights to its technology in the US and Europea by merging with US company Alta Analytics. The newly-formed company will be called NetMap Analytics and will focus its activities on helping the insurance industry discover major fraud. "These industries process tens of thousands of transactions each day and where fraudulent transactions occur, organisations can face serious financial losses," explained Richard McLean, president of NetMap Solutions, who will head the new company. "Without NetMap's technology the unusual patterns of activity that point to financial fraud remain hidden in such a huge amount of data."

Listed technology infrastructure specialist Iocom has spun off its computer telephony integration (CTI) division into a joint venture with boutique funds manager Quantum Financial Group. Under the terms of the deal Iocom will hold 20 per cent of the venture, but will not be required to provide further funding for it. Iocom's CTI division holds the regional distribution rights to the Alexis telephony product, which it launched in conjunction with Microsoft and Dell in February, a spokesman said.

IDEAS International, the IT comparative performance researcher that listed on the Australian Stock Exchange this week, wasted no time in informing the ASX that it had negotiated a global distribution agreement with Meta Group, a US IT research and consulting firm. Under the terms of the deal Meta will resell IDEAS's hardware product data to the global 2000 IT users, explained John Tulloch, managing director of IDEAS. He added that Meta will use IDEAS's product-focused data to enhance its own research products. "This affiliation will enhance our ability to assist users maximise their IT infrastructure returns," explained Peter Burris, co research director of Meta who was in Sydney to sign the agreement. Krone has won a contract to supply patch panels and accessories for use at research bases in the Antarctic. As a result of the deal Krone's equipment will be used in research stations operated by Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions' at Casey, Davis Mawson and Macquarie Island. A spokesman said the Krone installations form part of the LAN and telephone network at each station, which is then connected to the ANARESAT satellite link to Tasmania.
