Melbourne-based mobile phone game development company, Firemint, today announced that its six-month-old, top-selling iPhone application, Flight Control, has reached over 1.5 million sales.
Believed to be the first game to break the record worldwide, Flight Control has reached the number one paid app position on the iTunes charts in 20 countries during its short life, including Australia.
Flight Control has become an App Store success story and has managed to stand out among the thousands of apps that populate the store.
Firemint CEO Rob Murray, who developed the app as a work of passion over the holidays, previously told Computerworld that the company was unsure of how successful the app would be and that any success achieved relating to the timing of its release in the iPhone App Store was a fluke.
“I examined the market and there wasn’t really much out there in terms of air traffic control. We thought that this game was a winner in the sense that people could really love it and get addicted to it, but we didn’t know how it would go,” he said.
In a statement today Murray said he is grateful to the people who have embraced Flight Control.
Flight Control is available for $US0.99 from Apple’s App Store.

SkyTroller Enroute Air Traffic Control just came out. We were inspired by Flight Control great graphics.
While they focused on landing aircraft, SkyTroller's focus is keeping them in the air between airports.
