Nokia Ovi app store users can get their hands on a special edition of the music identification app Shazam free of charge until the end of November.
The app allows users to hold their mobile phone up to any device playing music and will identify the artists and track, known as 'tagging', as well as offering access to the Nokia Music Store so the track can be purchased by the phone owner.
According to Shazam, this process takes 10 seconds rather than the average 20 seconds it takes to use the service in the standard way, which involves dialling 2580, waiting for the call to connect and then holding the phone up to music.
Shazam also lets users send the information to friends via SMS, learn more about the artists, find out where they are touring and even discover new music which is similar to the track they 'tagged'.
The special version of Shazam can be downloaded for compatible handsets from the Nokia Ovi store for free. At the end of the promotional period, users will be given the option to upgrade to the full version of Shazam, which offers unlimited use of the service and its features for a one-off charge of £4.
Alternatively users get 5 free tags a month if they don't upgrade the app, but they are unable to access the other features in the app.
Shazham said it was offering the app free of charge to "celebrate the release of the Nokia N97".
